How to effortlessly elevate outdoor entertaining

2025-04-16T16:01:01

(BPT) – Whether it’s a backyard gathering, a park picnic or a casual evening on the patio, spring and summer offer countless opportunities to entertain in the fresh air.

Bezel, the newest addition to the Cakebread Cellars family, brings over 50 years of hospitality and winemaking expertise to California’s Central Coast. Rooted in Cakebread’s legacy of warmth, community and connection, Bezel offers fruit-forward wines crafted to elevate everyday gatherings with ease.

To help you bring that spirit to life every day, winemaker Jane Dunkley shares her favorite entertaining tips to make every gathering feel extra special.

1. Set the scene at any location

When people think about outdoor hosting, many turn to their backyard. However, don’t feel limited to your personal space. There are plenty of other underestimated, public options that can help to elevate your event.

For example, you can also look for green spaces. A nearby residential park acts as a central and accessible setting for your get-together, and state and national parks where you like to hike or a nearby beach can serve as great options for hosting.

Leaning into the natural beauty of these settings adds an effortless sense of celebration. Whether it’s the sound of waves, a view of the sunset or trees in bloom, the surroundings help set the tone.

2. Elevate the ambiance with easy add-ons

Once you’ve picked your location, it’s time to think about how to create a charming setting. The good news is you don’t have to break the bank to accomplish this. All you need are some intentional decorations, many of which you can bring to life yourself.

DIY decor can go a long way in making an outdoor area feel festive. Think of including seasonal touches on the table, like citrus fruits in a bowl, linen tablecloths or napkins and spring herbs on the serving plate.

Outside of these elements, you can also consider locations that offer some form of ambient lighting. For example, hosting around a fire is a great way to add warmth, and some beaches and parks even provide fire pits or rings for public use. If this isn’t available, lanterns are a great portable option that provide a similar effect, and can be lit with candles, batteries or string lights that are easy to pack.

3. Make beverage service effortless

Create a simple beverage setup where your guests can help themselves. This will encourage mingling and give you more time to enjoy the moment.

Dunkley recommends including a range of food-friendly wines that complement a variety of dishes and preferences. Bezel’s lineup of well-balanced wines is a great option for this, offering a simple yet thoughtful enhancement to any occasion at an approachable price, whether it’s a weeknight dinner, a casual get-together or a moment to unwind at the end of the day.

To round out the station, consider adding jugs of plain and fruit-infused water alongside the selection of wines.

4. Let the pairings lead the way

When curating a menu, consider finger foods and main dishes that can be enjoyed al fresco. Dunkley also encourages embracing unexpected pairings to enhance the experience and give yourself and your guests the freedom to experiment and find pairings that best fit their palate. So, while you may have heard that summer is for white wines, you don’t have to strictly follow this.

For example, chilled red wines like Bezel’s Pinot Noir excellently complement summer barbecue staples like steak and ribs. However, you can also go against the grain by serving this red with grilled salmon.

Three bottles of wine on the beach

Of course, it’s always great to offer traditional warm-weather white wines like Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc and experiment with other unconventional pairings with chips and French dip or sweet and sour pork, which are a few of Dunkley’s favorite options.

No matter what you choose, remember that the best wine pairing is the wine that tastes best to you. There’s no pressure, and to find these and other suggested wine pairings, visit BezelWines.com.

Whether you’re a veteran or novice host, these tips can help you take your outdoor entertaining to the next level.

How to put your penny to good use: Maximizing the value of spare change

2025-04-16T07:01:00

(BPT) – Across American households, spare change often sits idle — coins tucked away in jars, drawers or even old wallets. As the conversation around halting penny production in the United States proliferates, many consumers are left wondering if the humble penny has lost its value. The truth is, even if new pennies are no longer minted, every cent already in circulation continues to hold its worth. In fact, there are several smart and simple ways to put your pennies to good use that not only benefit your wallet but also support the community and the environment.

Understanding the value of the penny

For years, pennies have sparked debates over their cost-effectiveness and practicality. Yet, while the U.S. Mint could stop producing new pennies, the billions already in circulation remain an important part of everyday transactions. It’s estimated that American households are sitting on $7.7 billion in spare change, proving that every coin counts in our economy. This existing inventory supports not just individual spending but also vital systems of financial inclusion, especially for those who prefer and depend on cash.

Here are a few tips on how to unlock the hidden potential of your spare change:

Recycle to conserve natural resources. One of the simplest and most impactful ways to use your pennies is to recycle them. Recycling coins minimizes the need for additional raw materials, thereby reducing the environmental footprint associated with minting new coins. This eco-friendly approach not only helps the environment but also cuts down on the energy and material costs associated with mining and manufacturing.

Donate to charity. Donating pennies to charity is another excellent way to put your spare change to good use. Many charitable organizations appreciate coin donations, which can support a variety of causes, including food banks and community projects. For instance, Coinstar collected 14.2 billion pennies in 2024, many of which were donated to charities. Last year alone, consumers donated over $1.4 million to charities by recycling their coins through Coinstar. This means that even the smallest coins can combine to make a meaningful impact on those in need.

Support currency recirculation. Keeping coins in circulation is essential to reducing the demand for new minting, which in turn conserves resources and supports financial efficiency. Services like Coinstar are vital in this process. Its network not only helps recycle coins but also transforms them into spendable cash or digital funds. Coinstar’s existing infrastructure can support many times over the current U.S. Mint production, with over 18,000 kiosks across all 50 states, making cash and coins readily available for everyday transactions. With 50 million annual transactions, Coinstar is ensuring that coins can remain a dynamic part of our economy.

Support small businesses. Many local and cash-only businesses still depend on physical currency for everyday transactions. By spending your cash wisely — be it for a coffee or a small treat — you not only enjoy a little indulgence but also support local commerce. More than 90% of consumers intend to continue using cash as a means of payment or store of value in the future, highlighting the ongoing relevance of even the smallest denominations.

null

Digitize your coins. As our economy embraces digital solutions, Coinstar, through various partner relationships, provides access to services that can digitize physical cash and coin, such as loading to a prepaid account, transferring cash to a bank account, and purchasing cryptocurrency and stablecoins. Digitizing your spare change can help streamline finances and integrate seamlessly into modern banking and payment systems, ensuring that your pennies remain as versatile as ever.

Although new penny production may stop, this does not mean that you must stop using your pennies. The billions of pennies in existence today continue to have value that can still be used. Re-circulating coin puts spendable cash in all Americans’ hands, in support of the consumer and our economy. So next time you find a jar full of spare change, remember that those pennies still have the power to support sustainability, empower your community, and contribute to your financial well-being.

Six ways to get ready for a national park trip

2025-04-16T13:01:00

(BPT) – From the geysers of Yellowstone to the granite cliffs of Yosemite, America’s national parks remain a premier destination for outdoor exploration. For many travelers, visiting national parks is a bucket list ambition. In fact, one in four Americans aspire to visit every national park in their lifetime, according to a recent online survey conducted in January 2025.*

With warmer weather on the horizon and outdoor enthusiasts gearing up for the season — especially around moments like National Park Week, happening April 19-27 — now is the ideal time to start planning a national park adventure.

Before hitting the trail, OFF!® Mosquito and Tick Repellents has partnered with the National Park Foundation to share six tips to help make any national park experience worry-free and more memorable, so you can focus on the adventure.

1. Reserve entry passes and campsites early

Many parks have moved to a reservation-based system to manage crowds. Book timed entry passes, campsites and guided tours well in advance. Highly visited parks like Arches, Glacier and Rocky Mountain often sell out weeks ahead.

2. Plan for unexpected weather and layer up

Weather can be hard to plan around. Temps can drop fast — especially at higher altitudes — and unexpected showers can change hiking plans instantly. Come prepared with extra clothing — like a lightweight jacket, waterproof gear and long sleeves — in case the weather changes. If camping, consider extra layers for chilly nights.

3. Don’t let mosquitoes and ticks ruin the experience

With Mother Nature comes the presence of biting insects, like mosquitoes and ticks. Check the OFF!Cast Mosquito Forecast to see mosquito activity in the area up to seven days in advance. Bring a long-lasting mosquito and tick repellent, like OFF!® Deep Woods, to help prevent bites and ensure the outdoors are enjoyed uninterrupted.

4. Pack high-protein snacks and water

The summer heat can drain you, especially in Southwestern parks like the Grand Canyon. Pack a large water bottle (two liters or more) and hydrate frequently. For longer hikes, consider packing a filtration water bottle or straw. Save room in your backpack for high-protein snacks to keep you energized.

5. The early bird catches the worm

For the most peaceful experience, arrive before sunrise. You’ll beat the crowds and get a front-row seat at a beautiful sunrise.

6. See them all

Why stop at one? Visiting every national park may feel like a dream, but with planning, it’s achievable. Make a plan by searching for national parks based on a location, activity or topic and get one step closer to adventure.

*Online survey conducted by The Harris Poll on behalf of OFF!® Mosquito and Tick Repellents in the United States between January 16-21, 2025, among a nationally representative sample of 3,051 adults above the age of 18.

How one innovative company is addressing the rising costs of coffee

2025-04-16T07:01:00

(BPT) – Whether it’s served hot or iced, sweetened or black, coffee remains one of the most popular beverages in the United States — and the world. According to Drive Research, 73% of Americans enjoy coffee daily, and a whopping 93% consume it at least once per week. But the cost of this favorite drink keeps increasing, putting the rapidly growing $130 billion coffee industry at risk as global warming could reduce available viable land for coffee cultivation up to 50% by 2050. Coffee consumption has skyrocketed 60% over the last 30 years, resulting in significant environmental damage in coffee-growing regions, including deforestation, increased water usage and extensive pesticide use.

Due to extreme weather, logistical hurdles, workforce shortages, and increasing demand driving up coffee costs, the need for long-term solutions to improve coffee cultivation has never been more pressing. One groundbreaking biotech company, Pluri (Nasdaq: PLUR), is answering the call by pioneering cell-based coffee production through its subsidiary, Coffeesai.

Coffeesai uses advanced 3D cell technology to produce authentic ground coffee in a lab using a patented, scalable cell cultivation production system — without the constraints involved with traditional coffee farming. This innovative process mimics nature without exploiting it, ensuring consistent quality and high yields while using minimal resources.

Cell-based coffee production directly addresses some key factors behind coffee price volatility:

Supply chain resilience: Bio-farming removes reliance on weather-sensitive crops, mitigating climate-related disruptions.

Higher efficiency: The bio-farming system is designed to scale up production by generating the equivalent of 80,000 coffee plants in just three weeks, using only plant leaves.

Sustainability and cost reduction: This method slashes water usage by 98%, addressing a major driver of coffee production costs and its environmental impact.

While coffee production challenges persist, world demand for coffee is expected to triple by 2050. The cell-based production method minimizes the environmental impact of coffee production, as current production methods have a high carbon footprint, and upcoming regulations are expected to further strain producers.

“Cell technology can make farming and food cultivation more productive and sustainable for the future, starting with transforming coffee production,” said Pluri CEO and president Yaky Yanay. “Our advanced agtech solutions have the potential to reduce the environmental footprint of traditional agricultural production, overcoming the biggest challenges posed by climate change.”

The future of coffee

By using cutting-edge cellular agriculture technology to produce cell-based real coffee, Coffeesai delivers the perfect cup without depleting the planet’s resources. Coffeesai’s cell-based coffee is:

  • Pesticide and contaminant free
  • Consistently perfect in flavor profile
  • Available year-round, independent of harvest seasons
  • Scalable to meet commercial needs

Coffeesai can also produce customized products like naturally decaffeinated coffee.

This process improves the supply chain, helps protect the environment and makes pricing more predictable by decreasing labor costs and the production footprint, while helping reduce deforestation, pesticide usage and agricultural waste. Bio-farming also reduces the carbon emissions related to farming, transportation and roasting.

“It’s not just a cup of coffee: Coffeesai is a commitment to innovation, sustainability and the joy of a perfectly brewed cup,” added Yanay.

Whether you’re a coffee lover or eco-advocate, Coffeesai offers an unmatched, sustainable coffee experience without compromising on taste — or harming the planet.

New nonopioid approved for moderate-to-severe acute pain

2025-04-15T07:01:00

(BPT) – Acute pain can affect anyone.1 Short-term pain (acute) starts suddenly following an injury or medical procedure and lasts less than three months.2,3 Acute pain can impact your quality of life, disrupt your day, and can affect your professional and emotional well-being.4,5 Forming a treatment plan with your doctor to help manage your acute pain is important, as inadequate pain management can have consequences that affect a patient’s quality of life.4

There are approximately 80 million U.S. adults prescribed acute pain medication annually, and about 40 million receive opioids to manage their pain.6 While opioids can be effective, they also carry a risk of addiction.7 In fact, each year, Vertex Pharmaceuticals estimates approximately 85,000 patients develop opioid use disorder (OUD) within one year of starting an opioid treatment.8

Health care providers may prescribe either acetaminophen or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) as alternatives.7 While these treatments are generally well tolerated, they may have limited effectiveness, particularly for moderate-to-severe acute pain.7

A new path to pain management

Today, adult patients have a new option to treat their moderate-to-severe acute pain. As of January 2025, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved JOURNAVX™ (suzetrigine), the first new class of medicine for acute pain in more than 20 years.9-12

JOURNAVX is an oral, nonopioid, selective NaV1.8 pain signal inhibitor approved for the treatment of moderate-to-severe acute pain in adults.9,13 JOURNAVX reduces pain by targeting a specific sodium channel in the peripheral nervous system that blocks pain signals prior to reaching the brain.9,13 Opioid medications can act on both the peripheral nervous system and the central nervous system (CNS). Acting on the CNS triggers the brain reward system, which may lead to opioid misuse, addiction and opioid use disorder.14-17

JOURNAVX is a prescription medicine used to treat adults with moderate-to-severe short-term (acute) pain.9 It is widely available and is now on the shelves in retail pharmacies across the country. For more information about JOURNAVX, visit JOURNAVX.com or speak with your doctor.

Finding Balance with Primary Immunodeficiency: Karla’s Journey

2025-04-15T11:01:00

(BPT) – Karla has always found solace in the outdoors. Growing up on a large cattle ranch, she spent her days surrounded by wide-open fields, tending to animals and doing farm chores with her sister. But unlike her sister, Karla often found herself sidelined by illness. As a young child she frequently battled colds, flu and pneumonia. “Some family members started labeling me as ‘lazy’ which made me feel isolated and alone,” she recalls. As she grew older, her health challenges intensified, affecting not only school, but also work and her relationships.

A Long Road to Answers

By adulthood, Karla’s struggles became impossible to ignore. “By my 20s, it felt like I was getting sick more often, and it was hard to explain because people in my life couldn’t believe that anyone could be this sick.”

After years of doctor visits and treatments for recurring infections, the turning point came when Karla’s daughter, Sadie, was referred to an immunologist after exhibiting similar symptoms as a baby. “I found an immunologist who not only helped Sadie but also acknowledged my medical history and tested my immune system to understand what was going on with me,” she recalls. “The doctor made me feel incredibly validated.”

When the immunologist reviewed the comprehensive immune panel results, she said, “Oh my goodness, Karla. It’s not that you have problems with your immune system. It’s that your immune system is hardly there.” The bloodwork revealed Karla had specific antibody deficiency (SAD), a form of primary immunodeficiency (PI). PI is an umbrella term used to describe a group of ~550 disorders that weaken the immune system, making it harder to fight infections.

Finding a Treatment That Fits

The immunologist recommended that Karla start a type of treatment called immunoglobulin (IG) therapy to help give her body the antibodies it needed to protect itself against infection. Initially, she wasn’t sick as often, but she did get sick in between infusions. That’s when her doctor suggested treatment adjustments—including increasing her doses and an alternative IG treatment that allowed for more frequent infusions—to find the right treatment for her.

Living in a Remote Area: A Consideration for Treatment

Living in a rural area of Wyoming meant long travel times to in-office infusion appointments for Karla. She had to consider logistics, flexibility and convenience when discussing treatment options with her doctor. After discussing her options with her specialist, she was introduced to CUVITRU® [Immune Globulin Subcutaneous (Human)] 20%, a medicine approved for PI in patients two years and older.

What is CUVITRU?

CUVITRU is a ready-to-use liquid medicine that is given under the skin (subcutaneously) to treat primary immunodeficiency (PI) in people 2 years and older.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

What is the most important information I need to know about CUVITRU?
CUVITRU can cause the following serious reactions:
  • Severe allergic reactions causing difficulty in breathing or skin rashes
  • Decreased kidney function or kidney failure
  • Blood clots in the heart, brain, lungs, or elsewhere in the body
  • Severe headache, drowsiness, fever, painful eye movements, or nausea and vomiting
  • Dark colored urine, swelling, fatigue, or difficulty breathing

Please continue reading for additional Important Safety Information.

Karla’s doctor explained that after proper training from a health care professional such as a nurse, Karla could self-administer CUVITRU, eliminating the need for her to make frequent trips to an infusion clinic. “Since I live in such a rural area, being able to administer treatment at home felt like a more manageable option for my individual needs.”

Embracing a New Routine

At first Karla wasn’t sure what to expect, but over time she developed a routine that worked for her. “Infusion days at home became something to look forward to. Sadie and I make these our special nights, complete with movies and our favorite snacks. Instead of feeling like another chore, infusion days have become moments of connection and self-care.”

With her treatment plan in place, Karla feels like she has more control over her health. She continues to take precautions—like minimizing unnecessary germ exposure and staying in touch with her health care providers.

Most importantly, Karla wants others with PI to know they are not alone. “If you take one thing away from my story, I want it to be this: You are in control of your life—PI is not. Be empowered to advocate for yourself and your health.

Individual experiences with PI may vary. Always consult your health care provider for medical advice or services.

The best grilled cheese sandwich for your zodiac sign

2025-04-15T12:05:00

(BPT) – By Karla Walsh

Whether it’s an after-school or after-work snack, a quick and easy lunch or a comforting dinner, there’s no wrong time to savor a grilled cheese, if you ask us. In fact, add an egg and call it breakfast; it truly is an around-the-clock treat.

It’s clear we’re not alone in thinking grilled cheese is the GOAT. According to a September 2024 poll by Talker Research, grilled cheese is America’s favorite sandwich. (Sorry, turkey, tuna and PB&Js.)

Nostalgic, fast, flavorful and endlessly customizable, there’s a lot to love about a grilled cheese sandwich. But with so many breads, spreads, cheeses and flavor-boosters available these days, how is a sandwich-lover supposed to choose?

The answer is written in the stars, believes Alice Smith, astrologer at Alice Smith Astrology in Seattle.

“The signs of the zodiac describe our outlook and approach on the world. They describe our worldview, which includes our preferences, so they can also be helpful in determining our tastes and the things that bring us pleasure,” she says.

To help you meet your match, we asked Smith and Julie Taparia, a Vedic astrologer in New York City, to share the flavors, textures, aromas and overall energy members of each zodiac sign might gravitate toward. Then to inspire your future grilled cheese feasts, we’re dishing up recipes for each.

We’re firm believers that if you start with high-quality bread and cheese, you don’t need much more to make the best grilled cheese. We love Organic Valley cheese because their dairy comes from cows raised on organic family farms and cared for without the use of antibiotics, artificial growth hormones, toxic pesticides or GMOs. But to spice things up and speak to each zodiac, we’re adding a bonus ingredient to each combo. The recipes below each feature a unique style of cheese, a different type of bread and one or two other ingredients to speak to the spirit of your zodiac sign.

Aries: March 21 to April 19

“Aries is a firecracker sign that’s known for taking action, and it’s the first fire sign in the zodiac,” Smith says. Aries tend to be headstrong and courageous and crave spicy and exciting experiences and food, the astrologers agree. Vivian Krenz, a data specialist for Organic Valley, chimes in to add that Aries “live life out loud.” So to keep the flames stoked and ensure the crunch volume is turned up nice and high, try a sandwich made with chewy sourdough, jalapeño-studded Pepper Jack, and a spoonful or two of chili crisps for even more punch.

The Best Grilled Cheese for Aries: sourdough bread with Pepper Jack cheese and chili crisps

Taurus: April 20 to May 20

Indulgent, sensual and extremely “in touch with their physical senses,” according to Smith, Taurus is an earth sign. In addition to appreciating the finer things in life, Taurus individuals often appreciate timeless style and quality. To please your fine taste, consider starting with thick and rich slices of brioche. Layer on buttery Muenster, then add a scoop of earthy sautéed mushrooms (cook in a skillet with a splash of oil for about 10 minutes, or until tender and aromatic). Once this all melts together, you’ll be treated to luscious cheese pulls … and decadent flavor.

The Best Grilled Cheese For Taurus: Brioche with Muenster and sautéed mushrooms

Gemini: May 21 to June 21

Adventurous and “the life of the party,” says Taparia, Geminis are driven by curiosity. “They love novelty and detest predictability. Being bored is the worst thing for a Gemini,” Smith adds. With that in mind, Geminis will surely melt over a sandwich made with Organic Valley’s newest cheese: American Fiesta. It’s designed for queso but is an incredible ingredient in so much more — including a gooey grilled cheese with smoky, crispy bacon. Once you’ve mastered this recipe at full-size, try it crostini-style and add them to the menu for your next get-together.

Cancer: June 22 to July 22

Like a crab, which represents this sign, protecting itself in its safe shell, “cancers enjoy staying home and being cozy,” Smith says. They prefer foods that “feed the body and soul.” We’re sticking with the classics here. Fluffy, soft and rich potato bread acts as the ideal base for a blanket of classic American cheese and a nourishing fried or over-easy egg. (Pro tip: Griddle each slice of buttered bread in a skillet cheese-side up. Top with a lid to help cook the cheese. In a separate pan, cook the egg as you like it. Once the bread is lightly browned and the cheese is melted, place the egg on top of one cheesy toast, top with the other and dive in.)

Leo: July 23 to Aug. 22

Leos live large and don’t mind stepping into the spotlight. “They often have huge personalities,” Taparia says. To match that presence, Taparia suggests a large-and-in-charge sandwich made with thick slabs of Texas toast “to stand tall above the rest. This natural leader needs the largest grilled cheese sandwich in the zodiac.” Inside, robust and tangy Raw Sharp Cheddar won’t shy away from the spotlight. A layer of fig jam lends a lovely layer of sweetness to help balance out the bite.

Virgo: Aug. 23 to Sept. 22

With a keen eye for detail and a penchant for elegance and balance, Virgos gravitate toward things that are carefully tailored and well-made. “They don’t want to reinvent the wheel; they want to perfect it,” Smith says. It can’t be too bold or too bland, either. We’re searching for the “Goldilocks” of recipes made with “quality, natural ingredients,” Taparia says. Crunchy, sweet-tart green apple slices paired with understated yet ultra-creamy provolone slices, all inside whole grain bread coated in good butter? Now that sounds like a recipe for success.

Libra: Sept. 23 to Oct. 23

Libras are lovers. Described by Taparia as “romantic and affectionate,” Libras tend to be fair, balanced and charming. Since they thrive when they’re able to socialize, Smith says, they will likely adore a light and sweet option to keep them energized from day to night. Start with buttered cinnamon bread. (We’re skipping the raisins since Krenz says Libras prefer to avoid conflict — and raisins can be a controversial bread ingredient.) Then spread those warmly spiced slices with cream cheese and apple butter, and if you like, top things off with a pinch of flaky sea salt as a hat tip to the balance Libras showcase. Salty, sweet and crowd-pleasing. What’s not to love?

Scorpio: October 24 to November 21

“This zodiac is ruled by the red-hot planet, Mars,” Taparia notes. Scorpios seek out the mysterious and intense, and enjoy depth, Smith says. “Since they value their privacy, a pita bread is a perfect fit for a Scorpio. With its deep pocket, it will be a mystery to others what they are eating,” Taparia explains. Only you will know there is a salty, tangy and smoky duo hiding inside. Since Scorpios are “often intrigued when things are a bit ‘off,'” Krenz says, we recommend crumbled Feta or funky blue cheese. (Use a slice of provolone to melt it all together.) Then for a bright, smoky finish, tuck in slices of vibrant roasted red pepper. If you like, finish with a drizzle of balsamic glaze for a sweet-tangy flourish. Bake at 400 F for 10 to 15 minutes, and you’re all set to dive into the most complex combo of the group. How fitting for emotionally layered Scorpios!

Sagittarius: Nov. 22 to Dec. 21

For many Sagittarians, their passport and suitcase are always ready to fly. “They are known as freedom-loving and truth-seeking world travelers,” Taparia says. They’re the most adventurous sign, Smith and Krenz agree, and since trying food from other parts of the world allows us to learn about other people, “Sagittarius folks are also often the most open to flavors from other cultures,” Smith says. To celebrate this fact, build a grilled cheese on melted Ghee-brushed naan. Inside, you can take your taste buds on a “trip” via Spicy Cheddar (which packs a zip from habanero and paprika) and warm, sweet, tangy and tingly mango chutney.

The Best Grilled Cheese for Sagittarius: naan with Spicy Cheddar and mango chutney

Capricorn: Dec. 22 to Jan. 19

Practical and traditional, Capricorns are as trustworthy and reliable as your favorite pair of jeans. Capricorns seek out substance and prefer to “leave the lighthearted stuff to Libra and the inventive stuff to Aquarius and Gemini,” Smith says. Since old-fashioned and classic is what Caps crave, we suggest sturdy slices of whole wheat bread with the OG after-school combo of Yellow American Cheese and juicy tomato slices.

The Best Grilled Cheese for Capricorn: whole wheat bread with American Yellow and tomato slices

Aquarius: Jan. 20 to Feb. 18

You’ll rarely find Aquarius fading into the background. “They appreciate innovation, individuality and anything that rebels against tradition,” Smith says. No need to stick to standard white bread here. We’re calling in an unexpected foundation, salty, briny olive bread, which can stand up to a not-so-shy cheese: Smoky Cheddar. Then, since Smith says that folks who fall under this sign “appreciate true innovation,” and “if elements of tech and science can be incorporated, even better,” layer on some caramelized onions. (As the raw alliums are exposed to the heat, over time, they transform into a gloriously jammy, sweet and brown delight thanks to the Maillard reaction and caramelization.) For a beautifully unexpected and delicious briny boost, feel free to add a thin layer of olive tapenade, too.

The Best Grilled Cheese for Aquarius: ciabatta bread with Smoky Cheddar and caramelized onions

Pisces: Feb. 19 to March 20

Pisces, who are intuitive, spiritual and in touch with their feelings, are prone to “have emotions like the high tides and low tides of the water,” Taparia says. This means that the scenery and sensations they surround themselves with can definitely move the needle. So, we’ve designed the epitome of a food hug here: Slice open a croissant, stack on slices of silky, nutty Baby Swiss (imagine the holes can offer a glimpse into your heart!) and finish with a drizzle of honey. Heaven.

Why gluten-free baking is having a moment

2025-04-15T13:49:00

(BPT) – Consumers are increasingly choosing easy, convenient foods to support their active, busy lifestyles. This trend includes ready-to-bake treats such as brownies and cookies, but with alternative ingredients like those found in Ghirardelli’s new Gluten Free Double Chocolate Brownie Mix. That’s right, gluten free isn’t just for people with food allergies anymore, it’s the choice of ingredient-savvy consumers as well as those with gluten sensitivities. In fact, current research shows the U.S. market for gluten-free foods is among the largest in the world. That’s why gluten-free baking is having a moment.

Gluten free as a lifestyle choice

Nearly a third of consumers currently follow a gluten-free diet or have done so in the past. Grocery stores are paying attention, dedicating shelf space and expanding product selections to please the palates of this growing demographic. It’s easier than ever to bring home ready-to-eat and easy-to-make gluten-free goodies.

A gluten-free lifestyle encourages experimentation in the kitchen and introduces new flavors and textures. Gluten-free bakers are discovering that mixing and matching alternative flours, such as rice flour, creates blends that rival the original texture of wheat flour. Use almond flour in your banana bread for an extra-nutty kick. Or swap in oat flour to make pancakes that are thick and sweet. Explore different ingredients that suit your taste. Today’s gluten-free baked goods are innovative and indulgent.

Restaurants and retailers jumping on the gluten-free bandwagon

Cookie connoisseurs and brownie-baking enthusiasts are benefitting from the evolution of gluten-free baking at bakeries and restaurants, as well as in their own kitchens. In fact, the term “gluten free” has grown 39% on menus over the past four years, making it more accessible than ever. Gluten-free treats are now readily available for people who want to have their desserts and eat them, too.

American consumers are increasingly aware of gluten intolerance and the benefits of clean eating. This heightened awareness is driving growth of allergen-free items on grocery shelves. From bread and pasta to baking mixes, whole aisles of gluten-free products are now available.

Where sweet meets gluten free

Meanwhile, Americans also consume 2.8 billion pounds of chocolate each year, according to Jobera. And now you don’t have to choose between chocolate goodness and living your best life, regardless of your dietary preferences.

So, why not feed your chocolate craving with Ghirardelli’s Gluten Free Double Chocolate Brownie Mix, which combines premium semi-sweet and bittersweet chocolate chips, plus a unique blend of cocoa powders and a hint of vanilla to create the signature Ghirardelli flavor profile. Instead of wheat flour, the gluten-free recipe uses brown rice flour. It’s the same delicious taste as the original Double Chocolate Brownie Mix, but now available to more consumers than ever before. An 18-ounce brownie pouch mixed with butter, water, oil and an egg yields an 8X8-inch pan of rich, fudgy, gluten-free brownie bliss.

When it comes to gluten-free baking, the possibilities are deliciously limitless!

Here’s why enjoying screen-free play is good for you … and your cat

2025-04-14T16:01:01

(BPT) – Getting tired of scrolling on your phone? While it may seem like a stress-reliever, constantly being glued to screens can actually increase stress.

A recent University of Texas study found that taking a break from our screens can significantly improve mood and well-being. Many of us have fond memories of childhood weekends spent playing outdoors or staying in for game nights with family and friends. Reviving these routines is a great way to unplug and get much-needed breaks from overstimulation and stress.

If you’re seeking engaging activities beyond the screen, why not revive the cherished tradition of game night?

According to the National Institute for Play, the many benefits of play throughout your adult years include emotional, physical, social and cognitive advantages. And humans aren’t the only ones who benefit from play — if you’re a pet owner, you may already know how much our furry friends love to engage in fun activities.

“Play is a great outlet for humans and pets alike,” said Purina pet behaviorist Dr. Annie Valuska. “Enjoying activities together is one of the best ways to deepen your bond with your pets.”

Game Time Meets Play Time

If you have a pet at home, including them in your screen-free routines is a great way for both of you to get much-needed playtime and mental stimulation while strengthening your bond.

Friskies, the popular cat food and treat brand, recently created a brand-new game, “Adventures in Friskies World” to give board game and pet enthusiasts a fun activity that brings back the nostalgia of game night — with a feline twist.

A board game called

Developed by world-class game designer Ellie Dix, with cat insights from Dr. Annie Valuska, Adventures in Friskies World gives cat fans and board game lovers a challenging adventure that will keep them on their toes. Plus, if you have a cat at home, your felines also get a special toy included in the game, so they can stay entertained with the greatest toy of all — the cardboard shipping box the game arrives in.

“Cats are often incorrectly stereotyped as aloof and reserved, but their health and development benefit tremendously from playtime with us,” said Dr. Valuska. “They enjoy variety, and they love a challenge — much like humans do — so we designed the game with their instincts in mind.”

The Adventures in Friskies World game is available for purchase at BoardGame.friskies.com, while supplies last.

Dr. Annie’s Tips for Enhancing Cat Playtime

Meanwhile, to help bring out the playful side in your cats, keep them in mind as you explore new ways to play, using tips from Dr. Annie, and even taking inspiration from the board game.

1. Discover your cat’s favorite toys

Experiment with different toys to find out what your cat responds to the best. Cats naturally love to stalk, chase and pounce. Try out different toys that are designed for them to bat around, clutch, kick or carry, such as balls or small stuffed toys.

Safety tip: Always supervise play with toys that have feathers, strings or other parts that could be swallowed.

2. Explore different play modes

While some cats love to catch toys and then stay put with their “prey,” others are more intrigued by toys that move or make noise. Some like to chase a toy that is fast moving, while others are intrigued by slow stalking.

Changing how you play with toys can make things more interesting for your cat. It will help you learn which styles of play your cat likes best, giving you more opportunities to enjoy spending time together.

3. Bring out the boxes

You’ve seen it happen — sometimes your cat likes the box their new toys came in better than the toys themselves! And luckily, Adventures in Friskies World comes in a box your cat will enjoy. But why do cats love boxes so much?

“Cats are ambush mesopredators who love cardboard boxes because they provide a safe, enclosed space where they can hide, feel secure and observe their surroundings without being seen,” said Valuska. “On top of that, the texture of cardboard is perfect for biting and scratching, making it fun and engaging for cats to play with.”

Playing with your cat is more than just, well, cat’s play. It offers a world of exploration, physical activity, mental stimulation and fun that helps your cat stay happy and healthy. Best of all, it’s a fantastic way to enjoy screen-free fun with your furry companion.
